Everyone has aches and pains, but if you suffer from them on a regular basis and that pain is interfering with your quality of life, or you have poor joint mobility, you may want to consider supplementing your diet with Glucosamine.
What types of pain does it work for?
Mild to moderate osteoarthritis pain, particularly knee pain has been found to be improved with glucosamine supplementation. Joint pain in general may be improved, as glucosamine helps to improve the health of cartilage in joints, which is the rubbery type of tissue that acts like a cushion to absorb impact in joints. Pain comes when this cartilage breaks down over time, and other structures in your joint begin to be impacted.
How much would I need to take?
Generally 1500mg a day is suggested for optimal results. Just be aware that some side effects such as an upset stomach, heartburn, and headache can occur with this supplement, so it’s best to split this into three x 500mg doses with meals to help manage these.
How long does it take to work?
It takes about a month before you will start to notice any difference in pain levels, but studies have shown the effect to be similarly effective in some cases to certain anti-inflammatory medications.
* Please note: Individual results may vary, and it is important to consult your doctor before adding any new supplement to your diet as it may interact with other medication, trigger allergic responses, or worsen certain medical conditions.
I really hate taking supplements, is there anything else I can do to improve my joint pain?
The best ways to improve joint pain is to lose weight if you are overweight/obese (less weight= less pressure on joints), and to strengthen the muscles surrounding that painful joint (so the joint is well supported).
You shouldn’t underestimate how quickly you can see improvements in pain levels using these strategies- past guests who attended our NSW Central Coast or Torquay, VIC Weight Loss & Fitness Retreats were amazed at the improvements they saw in pain, flexibility, and strength in short periods of time.
