So how can you be expected to lose weight when you just straight up don’t like healthy food. The idea of eating salads, fruit, tiny little portions of tasteless food sounds like torture. It doesn’t matter how much you wish you were a few dress sizes smaller, it’s just not going to be possible for you when you hate healthy food this much!
So how can you change your eating patterns and lose weight without absolutely hating your healthy eating meal plan?
Start with the few healthy foods you do like
Start to brainstorm which healthy foods exist that you actually do like. It might help if you break it up into the different food groups. Is there any fruit you like? How about vegetables? What types of healthy meat, chicken, fish, eggs, or legumes do you quite enjoy? How about breads and cereals- are there any types of grainy bread or crackers you like? Do you like rice? Pasta? Which low-fat dairy products do you like- milk, cottage or ricotta cheese, low sugar yoghurts.
It might take a little bit of experimentation but chances are you can find at least a couple of things that you enjoy out of each of the food groups. You might not know if you will like something until you try it. So keep an open mind, and try and include the healthy foods you enjoy in your week and try one or two new foods.
Disguise the healthiness
Stewed fruit can be mixed in with porridge. Vegetable puree can be added into pizza sauces, pasta sauces, in burger patties, soups, even sandwich or wrap spreads. Smoothies can have baby spinach added with very little change to taste or texture. Oven bake crumbed chicken instead of frying it and still enjoy that delicious crunchy coating.
Think of your regular meals and snacks, and see if you can come up with a way to sneak in a little extra healthiness. Doesn’t that seem more appealing than a boring bowl of salad?
Ease into it
Your taste for healthy foods will change over time, so by slowly making changes each week to ease your meals into being healthier, you give your taste buds time to adjust as well. You might find that in 3 months you could be eating completely different foods, and actually enjoying them, something you could never have dreamed would ever be a reality for you. Plus… you might just be losing weight!
